Constitutional Convention
The Constitutional Convention has completed its policies and procedures and is currently reviewing the proposed Constitution article by article. The Committee is presently forcused on Article IV, which addresses the Legislative Branch of Tribal Government.
The committee’s goal is to develop a Constitution that reflects the values, needs and future of the Eastern Band of Cherokee while ensuring transparency, public participation and open discussion throughout the process.
Upcoming Meeting Announcement
Meetings of the Constitutional Convention are held on the second and fourth Thursday’s of the month. The next meeting is Thursday June 11, 2026 at 5:30 PM at the Tribal Council House.
The first 30 minutes will be open for public input. Community members are encouraged to attend, listen and share their thoughts as the committee continues its work.

- Tribal Council representation
- Weighted Council voting and census methodology
- Representation of enrolled members living off tribal lands
- Qualifications and term limits for Tribal Council members
- Accountability and transparency in government
These discussions will help shape how Tribal Council representation and governance are structured for future generations.
